Market Square expected to reopen Friday

Posted: Updated:
Roanoke City leaders expect to see the fences around Market Square come down by Friday. The sunny weather is helping construction crews who battled through rain, snow and cold temperatures this winter.

Construction crews started work on the project in January. The original completion date was April 1st but winter weather caused delays.

Workers hope to take advantage of the sunshine and finish the project by the end of the week. For months, business owners watched the construction take place outside their windows. They look forward to seeing the Market Square back open.

"We are really excited for the Spring and the Farmer's Market to come back" said Victoria Taylor, Gift Niche. "We hope everyone will come and see the beautiful new addition to the market and enjoy the springtime."

Store owners hope the excitement surrounding the reopening of Market Square combined with this nice weather expected for the weekend will attract more people downtown.
