RALEIGH, N.C. - The Raleigh City Council approved a contract for preconstruction services for the Union Station.

The contract approved preconstruction of the Union Station project which involves relocating passenger rail service from the existing Amtrak station on Cabarrus Street to the Dillon Supply Company Warehouse.

The council voted 6-0 to approve the $200,157 contract with Clancy and Theys/Skanska Joint Venture.

The Dillion Supply Company Warehouse will be renovated to accommodate the passenger rail facility.

Funding for Raleigh Union Station’s first phase was provided by a series of federal grants and local and state contributions.

Construction of the first phase is scheduled to begin late 2014 or early 2015.
