60 volunteers expected work on Roanoke home for YouthBuild Day

Posted: Updated:
YouthBuild will be teaming up volunteers throughout the Roanoke Valley to build a home for a family in need.

Run through Total Action for Progress (TAP), YouthBuild helps young adults ages 16-24 get a construction certification while earning a GED.

While providing education and training, the program also focuses on work ethic and real world experiences.

"A lot of these students have had a rough life and they're looking for another way," said YouthBuild Construction Instructor Joey Snead. "We're here to give them that hand, to give them an edge to get going."

As part of YouthBuild Day, around 20 students and another 40 volunteers will work on a home at 905 Patterson Avenue in Roanoke.

They will be working today from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m..

The home will be sold to a low-income or homeless family.
