A big announcement for music lovers in Roanoke. City leaders said 9 time grammy award winner, Sheryl Crow, will take center-stage at the newly renovated Elmwood Park.

The park has been under construction for several and city leaders believe a well-known artist like Sheryl Crow will be a good way to welcome people and music back to Elwood Park.

"It means that the community can come and support an artist and prove that this venue can be a viable and really important part of the cultural scene in Southwest Virginia" said Cyrus Pace, Jefferson Center Executive Director.

Crow has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide. City leaders believe her popularity is strong enough to attract other big-name music artist to Roanoke. But bringing the singing sensation to our area wasn't easy. Pace said it took months of negotiating with agents. In the end, Crow's performance is expected to cost $100,000. City manager, Chris Morrill, said $75,000 of will be provided by the city and sponsors will cover the rest. While local leaders plan to keep Elmwood Park open to non-profit events like Festival in the Park, they believe spending money for a commercial concerts like Sheryl Crow will pay off.

"It will bring more people downtown and have more people eating and going out to dinner" said Morrill. "I think it really puts us on the map."

Sheryl Crow will perform on Thursday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets go on sale April 17th at 7 a.m. Exclusively through the Jefferson Center. Tickets are $15 per person
