Sex offender caught trying to check in at Roanoke County School
A Roanoke fugitive sex offender is behind bars, thanks to the help of Roanoke County Public Schools.
35-year-old Michael Anthony has been arrested and is in custody at the Roanoke City Jail without bond. Police say Anthony failed to comply with state law and register as a sex offender in the commonwealth.
Further investigation by both Roanoke County Police and State Police also revealed Anthony was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service on a federal warrant for an assault charge.
On Tuesday, Anthony arrived at a Roanoke County Middle School to pick up his girlfriend's son. When he checked in, the security management system immediately alerted the US Department of Justice's national sex offender database.
