Forest Volunteer Fire Dept. Sees increase in calls and time on them

Posted: Updated:
Forest, VA - The Forest Volunteer Fire Department is seeing an increase in the number of calls it received and the hours spent responding to them.

We found out the numbers of calls increased by 20% and the department spent 3,069 hours for calls for service from January to March this year compared to the same time frame last year.

A possible reason for the increase is the population increase and more people moving in to new developments in the county.

"As the community grows, the opportunity for more needs is there," says Lt. Burnette, Forest Volunteer Fire Co. "Obviously for the more residences you have for fires the more chances for fire alarms."
