VDOT announces addition to I81 construction detour

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, VA - VDOT has announced an addition to the I81 northbound construction detour.

From now until Monday, April 14, traffic is being detoured off I81 northbound at exit 118C in Christiansburg onto Route 11/460.  Traffic is being detoured along Route 11/460 to the Dixie Caverns exit.

VDOT says traffic can now use Route 603 (North Fork Road) in Elliston to access the Ironto exit (Exit 128) and get back on I81 during the daytime detour.  The ramps leading to I81 will be open at this location during the day.

This additional route is for personal vehicles only, VDOT says the road is too narrow for tractor trailer traffic.

The detour is part of a maintenance project to rehabilitate pavement on I81 northbound between mile markers 121 and 125 in Montgomery County.
