Salem Red Sox prepare for home opener tonight

Posted: Updated:
SALEM, VA - The Salem Red Sox home opener is tonight and there are new things in store for fans this season.

Team officials say they're listening to fans and bringing more of what fans want. There will now be regular theme days all season long like live music and drink specials on Thursdays. Salem Red Sox General Manager Ryan Shelton says fans consistently enjoy after game fireworks displays, so every Friday a fireworks show will be put on.

Saturdays will consist of 9 Innings of Winnings which means fans will have a chance to win prizes every inning throughout the game. Prizes will range from tickets to upcoming games, gift cards and T-shirts. Sundays are considered FUNday Sundays and focus on families. Kids will be able to run the bases after the game and take part in a player autograph session.

The team has also added new food options to its roster. "I was pretty excited to see Ben & Jerry's come on board," Shelton said. "To alleviate some of the pressure on the stands and to be able to serve more fans from the concession stands, we're bringing out some foods trucks so we'll have Baum's BBQ Food Truck here on opening night. We'll also have Chick-fil-A out with tents selling chicken sandwiches."

The Salem Red Sox will play Winston-Salem tonight at 7:05 p.m. at LewisGale Field.
