Several thousand people are expected to be in the Bedford area for the 70th D-Day Anniversary. Many of those people will shop, eat, and stay at local hotels which means a big boost for the economy.

Some of the events include an outdoor movie night, a parade, musical performance, and a history project.

Even though the anniversary is in June, several hotels are already booked in Lynchburg such as the Hilton Garden Inn and Downtown Holiday Inn.

We spoke to one of the organizers for the ceremony and she told us several hundred veterans from around the country such as Florida and North Carolina confirmed they'll be coming.

The president of the National D-Day Memorial Foundation says this anniversary will showcase the area and its past.

"We want to make sure beyond D-Day we preserve lessons and the legacy of our D-Day World War II veterans," says April Cheek-Messier, president of the National D-Day Memorial Foundation.

World War II veteran Hayden Furrow says he's looking forward to be reunited with other fellow veterans.

"We're like you might say a club of old men who get together and talk about their experiences," says Furrow.
