The Roanoke Law Foundation will host an event today that will address different issues surrounding aging.
Local lawyers that specialize in elder law will answer questions about paying for senior care, Medicare, and protection from scammers.
Those topics will become relevant to many in the next few years as the number of seniors is expected to grow.
Our Local Office on Aging serves Alleghany County, Botetourt County, Craig County, Roanoke County, Covington, Roanoke City, and Salem.
According to the Virginia Employment Commission, the number of seniors in that region has grown by about 6,000 since 2010.
The senior population is expected to grow another 8,000 people by 2019.
With that increase, more seniors will need care in the area.
Questions regarding saving for care and how to select a nursing home will be addressed today.
The event is free and begins at noon.
