Students needing free or reduced increases in Franklin Co.

Posted: Updated:
The number of students receiving free or reduced lunches in Franklin County keeps going up.

For some kids, the meal they get at school is the only one they will get all day.

Franklin County Principal Deb Decker says over the last few years she's noticed more and more of her students signing up for the free and reduced lunch program.

'This is a program we have that can help you and your family during a time of need," Franklin County Principal Deb Decker says.

In the last six years the county has seen a 9% increase in students signing up. Some schools even have 60% of students using the program.

Food Service Director Chuck Hutto says Franklin County gets reimbursed with federal dollars every time a family signs up.

He encourages families to take advantage of the program. Families can sign up anytime throughout the year.
