MANTEO, N.C. - Authorities have identified the man who drowned in the Albemarle Sound Wednesday night.

He's identified as Jonathan Rodwell Day of Colington, N.C.

Colington Fire Chief Glen Rainey says Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head Ocean Rescue personnel found Day's body around 11:40 a.m. Thursday.

Rainey says a witness called 911 about a man who fell out of his kayak off of Colington Island and was in the water and in need of help around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night.  The person who called had eyes on the individual, but lost sight of them by the time rescue crews arrived.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue Team assisted the Fire Department in the search.  The U.S. Coast Guard also searched with boats and by air for about 7 hours and covered about 30 square miles.
