The rapidly expanding Botetourt Sports Complex will soon be home to four new soccer fields.

Botetourt County recently signed a 20 year agreement with the Roanoke Star Soccer Club to develop this land into new fields.

With an average of 25,000 people per year already visiting the softball fields at the sports complex, the county's tourism office believes this is the next logical step.

"What it does for the county is to bring in visitors that normally wouldn't come into the county otherwise," said Pete Peters, the Director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism for Botetourt County. "They're coming in here for games, for tournaments and our goal is to give them other activities to do while they're in town to stay a little longer or perhaps come back another weekend."

Peters said the growth and popularity of youth travel sports is playing a big part in the complex's expansion and the county's tourism strategy.
