The Regional Center for Animal Control and Protection is a new member of the Rescue Wagging program.
The Petsmart Charities program transports dogs from crowded shelters to others across the nation where adoption rates are higher.
Up to 20 dogs can be transported each month.
RCACP Executive Director, David Flagler, hopes the program will lead to less dogs being put to sleep.
Less crowding at the shelter should also give the pound more time to work with dogs that are less likely to get adopted.
Flagler hopes to see a 5-10% increase in the number of animals being placed as a result of the program.
Finally, participating in Rescue Waggin' will also save the pound money.
Petsmart Charities will cover the cost of testing and vaccinating each dog that will be transported, which will save the pound about $25 per animal.
This is a good time for shelter to join as the summer season will kickoff soon.
That time is normally the busiest for the shelter.
