Roanoke County's Explore Park getting ready for opening

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE COUNTY, VA - Explore Park, located off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Roanoke County, is getting ready for an open house next month. As you may remember the park closed in 2008.

Since Roanoke County signed a 99-year contract last year, they have been making upgrades to several buildings in the park. The wedding chapel will host the first wedding in June. The Taubman building is getting a new deck and new paint to be used as a special events center for wedding receptions or business meetings.

The original plan called for updates to the Brugh Tavern to get it ready for a restaurant but it was going to cost too much so those plans are now on hold. The long term plans include cabins, camping, a ropes course, mountain bike rentals and more. The master plan is currently being developed.

The open house is May 10th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will include live music, food, nature walks and more
