3 Blacksburg companies raise major capital

Posted: Updated:
Three Blacksburg companies have raised major capital recently.

The Fitnet Corporation raised $1.4 million in capital. Fitnet's free app uses a webcam to help clients with workouts led by real personal trainers.

Fitnet launched a version for the i-Pad in January and has helped people from 175 countries and 50 states burn more than 1.25 million calories.

"We're using the capital we got to grow our software development and make the application better and to expand our work out directions," Chief Geek Bob Summers says. "Right now, we have about 150 workouts. We would like to double that easily the next couple of months."

The social media company HEYO has raised $2 million.

CEO Nathan Latka says, "Our goal is by 2017, to be serving 500,000 small businesses and generate $180 million in top venue."

Latka says the capital will help the company create five to ten new jobs in software development and marketing before the end of the year.

Investors also gave the company VFit $645,000. The company's product is VirtualU which provides a 3d human body scanner that helps you track changes to your body over time.

It's three big signs that people are interested in helping our local companies grow.
