12-year-old accidentally kills little brother in Franklin Co.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says a 12-year-old year boy accidentally killed his seven-year-old brother.

Deputies received a 911 call about shots fired on Monday, April 21st at 11:46 a.m. The shooting happened on Double Oaks Lane in the Burnt Chimney community. 

Deputies found the seven-year-old lying on the floor in the residence with a gunshot wound.

The preliminary investigation indicates the brothers were playing at a neighbor's residence. The 12-year-old found a handgun and accidentally discharged the firearm, striking, and instantly killing the seven-year-old.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved in this time of tragedy," Franklin County Sheriff's Office says. 

No charges have been filed at this time.
