Nashville artists planning benefit concert at Blacksburg's Lyric Theater

Tickets are on sale now for benefit concert to help two people with ties to Blacksburg who are both fighting cancer.

Nashville artist Jason Adamo, of the Jason Adamo Band, was in town over the weekend helping get ready for the June event. He's one of a big line up of musicians who will take part in the Cherry Pink Strong Benefit Concert to raise money for 4-year-old Lauren Cherry and Ben Pinkerton.

BLACKSBURG NATIVE TO RETURN FOR BENEFIT CONCERT AT LYRIC

Adamo says he wanted to do something to help and knew music was the answer. "Were going to have a nice variety," he said. "People think Nashville they think country but it's a little more rock and roll for this show."

Lauren Cherry is the 4-year old daughter of Steve and Marisa (Martin) Cherry who graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1995. She's fighting two rare forms of pediatric cancer. Ben Pinkerton, of the class of 1996 is currently battling Stage IV colon cancer. He and his wife Karla, are expecting their first child in June.

All proceeds from the benefit will go to both families. The concert is June 7th at the Lyric Theater.

The line-up includes, in addition to the Jason Adamo Band, the Eric Stuart Band (Eric is also the original voices of Brock and James in Pokemon), and a group of singer-songwriters including Evergone (based in Charlotte; featuring Blacksburg native Larry Kohler and Scott Harding), Grammy-nominated artist Sam Tate, and Good Company.

"The outpouring of support is just mind blowing," Adamo said. "A lot of musicians are just driving themselves up or getting a bus or a van and we're going to have a lot of fun for a great cause."
