Blacksburg native to return for benefit concert at Lyric

The Blacksburg Community is coming together to help a former classmate in his fight against cancer.

Ben Pinkerton was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. Some of his Blacksburg High school classmates have organized a benefit concert headlined by a former student and other Nashville musicians. It will benefit Ben and Lauren Cherry, the 4-year-old daughter of another graduate who is fighting pediatric cancer.

Pinkerton says knowing of Lauren's fight and having the community's support is overwhelming. "Watching what's she's done in her fight going forward has really given me a blueprint of how to approach this thing and having the support with the Blacksburg community behind me just means everything to me."

Pinkerton says his friendships have been a big part of helping him and his wife cope with a life changing event in their lives. "All of our friends and folks from Blacksburg and the surrounding area they or friendship has been and continues to be a source of inspiration for us to keep moving forward," he said.

The line-up includes, Nashville artist Adamo of the Jason Adamo Band, the Eric Stuart Band (Eric is also the original voices of Brock and James in Pokemon), and a group of singer-songwriters including Evergone (based in Charlotte; featuring Blacksburg native Larry Kohler and Scott Harding), Grammy-nominated artist Sam Tate, and Good Company.

All proceeds from the benefit will go to both families. The concert is June 7th at the Lyric Theater.
