Town of Blacksburg wants to move forward with recreation center plans

Posted: Updated:
BLACKSBURG - Montgomery County officials say they are willing to talk to Blacksburg leaders about plans to build a new recreation facility on the old Blacksburg High School property.  The town has been making plans for several years now to build the new 65,000 sq. ft. building. The property currently belongs to the county, and Board of Supervisors members say they want to make sure they get fair market value for the property in order to best benefit the schools.

The Town Council and Board of Supervisors met this week to discuss several items, including the future of this property.  Board chair Bill Brown released the following statement:

"We believe the joint meeting held earlier this week with Town Council was very positive. The Board of Supervisors looks forward to hearing more about the town's plans for the old Blacksburg High School property in coming months."

Mayor Ron Rordam says this is the first positive step between the two entities in moving forward with plans for the property, and he believes a new recreation center will be part of a long term goal to improve quality of life in Blacksburg.
