It's election day throughout Virginia, including an important city council race in Roanoke.
Voters in the Star City are electing three open seats.
The crowded field of candidates includes incumbents Dave Trinkle, Ray Ferris and Bill Bestpitch.
Trinkle is running as a Democrat, while Ferris and Bestpitch switched from Democrats to Independents.
They are challenged by Democrats Freeda Cathcart and Linda Wyatt, Republicans Hank Benson, Jim Garrett and Roger Malouf, as well as Independents Valerie Garner and Tuan Reynolds.
Several issues have been at the forefront of the campaign, including education spending, the city's economic development strategy and public safety.
The polls are now open and will stay open until 7 p.m. tonight.
Other parts of southwest and central Virginia will also have elections today.
Voters in Salem, Lynchburg, Radford, Danville, Galax, Vinton, Buchanan, Hillsville, New Castle, Boones Mill, Rocky Mount, Troutdale, Fries, Independence, Dublin, South Boston, Wytheville and Rural Retreat will elect candidates to serve on city and town councils.
Voters in Pulaski, Independence, Rural Retreat and Ridgeway will elect a mayor.
