Roanoke County Administrator Clay Goodman announced Monday that he will be retiring, effective July 31, 2014. Goodman submitted his resignation to Board Chairman Joe McNamara on Monday.
"I have enjoyed a long career serving in local government," says Goodman. "The five years I have spent at Roanoke County have been fruitful and challenging. I am proud of the employees who every day provide a high level of service to our residents. During constraining budgetary times and resulting challenges, our employees have never wavered in their commitment. I am appreciative of the support from the Board of Supervisors for whom I have great respect. They are dedicated to ensuring that we have effective local government policies in place."
"Clay has been a devoted and compassionate public servant for his entire career," says Chairman McNamara. "We have all benefited from Clay’s leadership. I will miss his guidance and friendship but wish him the very best during retirement."
Prior to his move to Roanoke County in 2009, Goodman served as county administrator of Montgomery County, town manager of Vinton, and city manager of Buena Vista. He held similar positions in Georgia and West Virginia.
