Woman's death on Durham trail called a homicide

DURHAM, N.C. -

Police are investigating after a woman's body was found in Durham Wednesday morning, and police said they are investigating the death as a homicide.

Officers were dispatched to Elmira Avenue, near Rocky Creek Trail. Rocky Creek Trail is near the American Tobacco Trail. A passerby found the body on the trail at 6:15 a.m. Investigators are still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez would not comment much as the incident remains under investigation. Lopez is encouraging anyone with information to call police.

No other details were immediately released.
