JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

Johnson City police are asking for help finding a man who used fake identification to cash a check from a local museum.

Inv. Matt Bolton said it is unclear right now if the check itself was a fake or if it was stolen from Hands On! Regional Museum, 315 E. Main St., but a man went to Bank of Tennessee at 1328 W. State of Franklin Road on Tuesday afternoon, presented that check and got more than $1,600.

The check had been made out to a local business, Bolton said.

The man’s identification apparently looked OK but the transaction was later deemed fraudulent.

He was described as white, about six feet tall and 210 pounds. His age was between 25 and 30.

Surveillance pictures of the transaction from Bank of Tennessee accompany this article.

Anyone who has any information is urged to call Crimestoppers at 423-434-6158 or call the Johnson City Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division at 423-434-6166.
