Jury deliberations for Randy Taylor trial underway today

Posted: Updated:
NELSON COUNTY, VA - The fate of Randy Taylor now lies in the hands of jurors.

He is the man charged with abducting and murdering missing teen Alexis Murphy.

Yesterday, both the prosecution and defense rested their cases.

During closing arguments, the Commonwealth's Attorney Anthony Martin focused on the DNA evidence investigators found at Taylor's camper, the lies Taylor has repeatedly told, and the importance of Murphy's cell last having signal near Taylor's property.

In the defense's argument, Attorney Michael Hallahan says he knows there is more to the story that Taylor is not telling, but it's not the defense's job to prove anything.

He says the Commonwealth has not made a strong enough case and that there is no evidence that Alexis Murphy is dead.

The jury did meet for about 15 minutes on Wednesday before deciding to break and come back to the courthouse today with fresh minds.
