Kaine to deliver commencement addresses at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine & Virginia State University

Posted: Updated:

U.S. Senator Tim Kaine will deliver the keynote speech to the graduating class of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine this year on Saturday May 10th. As Governor, Kaine worked with President Charles Steger of Virginia Tech and Edward Murphy of the Carilion Clinic to help establish a public-private partnership between the two institutions and break ground at the new facility in Roanoke. This will be the first graduating class since the medical school was established in 2008.

On Sunday, May 11, Kaine will deliver the keynote address at Virginia State University’s (VSU) Spring Commencement. During the ceremony, Kaine will receive VSU’s first President’s Medal in recognition of his work to improve the well-being of VSU and the Commonwealth of Virginia. As Governor, Kaine championed a higher education bond package that supported lab renovation and expansion of VSU’s Hunter-McDaniel Building.
