RBTC's celebrates technology in Roanoke-Blacksburg region

The Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council is hosting Technite 2014 on Friday. Our own WSLS 10 reporter Katie Love is emceeing the event.

More than 700 entrepreneurs and business leaders are expected to come together to celebrate the great technology happening in our region.

Some of the awards being presented are the Innovator Award, Entrepreneur Award, and Regional Leadership Award.

One of those nominees is Jack Lesko from Virginia Tech's College of Engineering.

"I was really quite surprised to be in that cast of characters. There's some really great folks who have contributed to the community and I look forward to seeing the evening come together and meting those leaders as well," Jack Lesko says.

Derick Maggard is the Executive Director of the RBTC. He says this is chance to celebrate the huge economic impact these companies have had in terms of capital investments, adding jobs, innovating, and putting our region on the map.

"When I look at what our region is doing, when it comes to technology and innovation, we are truly leader among the tech hubs in the nation," Derick Maggard says.

The Robotic Team Tuxedo Pants have also built a special robot named 'Butler' to come the stage and deliver the winning env
