Bedford County Schools efficiency review to be released Thursday

Posted: Updated:
Bedford County schools are in a tight spot as school leaders face the possibility of eliminating positions. Last week, the school board announced that it may have to cut 46 positions as board members look to trim $4 million dollars from the budget. On Thursday, educators will unveil the results of a state-mandated efficiency review.

The school division efficiency review program is designed to identify ways for school systems to save money. Roanoke County, Martinsville and other Virginia school districts have undergone the reviews. In the past, consulting firms examined ways for schools to effectively redirect funds from non-instructional activities to classroom activities.

Bedford school leaders hope the information will give county leaders and residents a better look at the school systems needs.

"We are going to get some outside input as to how efficiently we are spending the funds we are receiving from the county and the state" said Dr. Douglas Schuch, Bedford County Schools Superintendent. "My hope is that the information will also help the county and community understand what our needs really are."

The review results will be revealed during a informational meeting on Thursday, May 15th at 7:00 p.m. At Bedford Elementary School.
