Blacksburg considers storm water utility fee

Posted: Updated:
Over the years the town of Blacksburg has been proactive in managing stormwater issues, but new state and federal mandated regulations are requiring more resources.  A stormwater utility fee to address the town’s stormwater funding needs is being considered.  This utility will preserve water quality in streams and waterways, keep the stormwater system operating as designed, and improve local and regional drainage problems.

Blacksburg Town Council will hold a public hearing on a proposed stormwater utility fee on June 10, 7:30 p.m. at the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 South Main Street.

If adopted, the fee will go into effect January 2015 and be added to the customer’s utility bill.  For a residence, the fee will be charged per unit and for non-residential properties it will be charged by the total area of hard surface on site. The proposed fee for each developed individual residential property is $6 dollars.
WSLS will continue to keep you updated with the latest.
