Local runner hit by minivan continues to make strides toward recovery

Posted: Updated:
Sandra Andrew is on the road to recovery. Back in January, Andrew was hit by a minivan while running along Walnut Avenue in downtown roanoke. The roanoke dentist suffered multiple injuries including fractured ribs, a punctured lung and a concussion.

After spending weeks in the hospital, the avid runner returned home where she does physical therapy exercises several times a week. Those who know Sandra, know that she is a woman on the run. While her injuries have slowed her down, she remains in good spirits. Andrews said the recovery process and her physical therapist has helped her exercise patience.

" My physical therapist said be patient in the next ten second don't worry about the next six months" said Andrew. "He said be patient the next step is going to be the hardest step of the day and then next time you will go further. That made an impact on me."

Andrew is a dentist who has practiced in the area for nearly 30 years. She said she hopes to return to her dentist office by July. She said she was overwhelmed by the support from the community following her accident.
