VDOT to host public hearing in Roanoke tonight

Posted: Updated:
VDOT will host a public hearing in Roanoke tonight to give people a chance to comment on the draft budget for the Six-Year Improvement Program.

The hearing will allow people in Southwest Virginia to tell members of the Commonwealth Transportation Board what issues are most important in our area before a new budget is set.

Improvements to local highways and major roads, as well as rail could be topics that come up tonight.

VDOT says that input at this meeting will be very important in helping the board decide how it spends money in the final budget.

Some specific projects that are expected to be brought up are improvements to Route 220 in Boutetourt County and changing the location of the park and ride located near Fallen Branch Elementary School.

Tonight's meeting is at 6 pm at Northside High School.

After the hearing, the board will take the feedback into consideration and the new budget will go into effect on July 1st.

For anyone unable to attend the hearing, you can mail or email comments to the following addresses. Comments must be received by June 2, 2014..
