Mythbuster Monday

Posted: Updated:
Myth: I should avoid exercise after having a heart attack.

Usually False.

"Most people can resume full exercise after a heart attack with the advice of their doctor.  Patients who have particularly complicated or serious heart attacks will usually be referred for cardiac rehab," explains Carilion Clinic Cardiologist, Dr. Matthew Schumaecker.

He says, during that rehab an appropriate lever of exercise will be determined.  Dr. Schumaecker adds that in almost all cases, exercise is healthy and encouraged after a heart attack.

As always check with your doctor if you have questions.
