A local organization that promotes safety and violence prevention for young women is growing nationwide.

Help Save the Next Girl was started by Gil and Dan Harrington after their 20-year-old daughter Morgan was sexually assaulted and murdered in 2009.

The Harrington's message to prevent future crimes against young women has taken off.

Help Save the Next Girl has chapters at Virginia Tech, Sweet Briar College, Michigan State University, and Lord Botetout and Walkersville High Schools.

"I think all young women need to feel empowered and feel strength to be able to protect themselves and be able to speak out for themselves." VT Help Save the Next Girl Officer Sarah Church says.

"We need to educate our students. The parents of the students are looking to us to teach students obligation to each other. We won't stop that work," Help Save the Next Girl Faculty Advisor Jane Vance says.

The organization is holding an event on Saturday for three missing people to get the word about their cases.

The families of Wendy Beadles Francis, James Brown, and Hattie Brown will all be present.

The event is at the Wal-Mart in South Boston starting at noon.
