The Carlin Chronicles Fishing Picture Competition is Back.

Posted: Updated:
It’s baack!

If there’s one thing great about summer, it’s fishing.  If there is one thing great about fishing, it’s pictures of the catch.

Sometimes it’s little Jimmy or Mary holding a sunfish in one hand with a Mickey Mouse pole in the other.  Or maybe it’s an adventurous sportsman standing next to a blue marlin on the dock.  The smile and the pride in the accomplishment is the same no matter the age, and that’s what we want to capture in the Annual Carlin Chronicles Fishing Picture Competition.  You catch the fish, take a picture and post it to our gallery, and we’ll share your triumph with our viewers, web users and social media friends and followers.

In Virginia we are lucky to have amazing fishing in our rivers, lakes and even the Atlantic Ocean.  If you have been watching the news, or perhaps remember back to 2008 at the end of my first tour of duty at WSLS, you know this contest has been a summertime favorite.

I love the outdoors, and in particular, fishing.  It’s one of life’s few past times where hours can go by as if they never happened.  It’s just you, your rod and reel and the puzzle of how to fool the fish.  What better way to enjoy the summer than to share your pictures!

So go get your gear and your camera, catch a fish and share your photo.

Here is how it works. *click here for complete rules

The fish must be caught between Memorial Day weekend (May 24th) and Labor Day. (Monday September 1)

The fish or the Fisherman must be from Virginia at the time of the catch.  So if you are from out of state and you catch the fish here – you’re good.  If you live in Virginia, but you catch a tarpon in say  -- Florida – you are also good!

After you take the picture, post the photo in our gallery here.  (Click here for link and instructions for posting)

We will share select images on WSLS newscasts, and via social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

After Labor Day, a panel of judges will select the best photos from the entire summer, and those will be re-posted where the public can vote for the best image.  The photo with the most votes on September 19 will win a great prize.

So MeeMa and PawPa, go get the grand kids from in front of the TV or computer.  You weekend sportsmen, clean the leaves out of the canoe, shoo the spiders out of your waders and put new sparkplugs the outboard.

It’s time to catch some fish.
