RALEIGH, N.C. - Raleigh Police officers are still searching for a bear that was seen in the Five Points area late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

The bear was spotted around 11:30 p.m. crossing Glenwood Avenue near Alexander Drive, and then just after midnight in the 2100 block of Carroll Drive. It was last spotted near Oxford Road and Dunhill Drive.

In a call to 911 Sunday night, a caller said, "It's not a real emergency, but we just saw a black bear cross in front of us at Glenwood and Alexander."

"A bear?" the 911 dispatcher responded.

"A black bear - on Glenwood Avenue!" the caller said with a laugh.

The caller added, "He just ran into the back of somebody's yard. Who would have thought? A black bear in the middle of town?

"And she's a big black bear - it's not a baby."

Police believe the bear is traveling in a northern direction. Officers are driving around in an attempt to monitor the bear’s location.

The bear was spotted not far from Joyner and Underwood elementary school. Officials warned Monday not to feed or approach the bear if someone sees it.
