GARNER, N.C. -

Senior citizens in Garner celebrated the 40th anniversary of Meals on Wheels in Wake County Wednesday.

To honor the organization, Mayor Ronnie Williams read a proclamation at the Garner Senior Center declaring today, June 11, Meals on Wheels Day.

The organization helps feed those who struggle to make it out of their homes.

“The seniors get out and see their friends. They're communicating. They're learning things from each other they're doing things they normally wouldn't have done, and they're getting a good meal to boot. I think that's wonderful,” said Sarahgale Holbrook, manager of Garner Meals on Wheels.

Last month, Garner Meals on Wheels served 3,330 people. It’s the largest site Meals on Wheels group in Wake County.
