Cumberland Co. issues boil water advisory to Southpoint Water System customers

Posted: Updated:

Cumberland County issued a boil water advisory to all Southpoint Water System customers Wednesday afternoon.

Bladen County shut down the groundwater well that supplies water to Southpoint customers for maintenance purposes, according to a Cumberland County release. Customers should boil water for three minutes before using until further notice.

County officials told WNCN the boil advisory was not planned and that they decided to take precautionary action after Bladen County determined that discoloration in the system was coming from the groundwater well filters.

Approximately 45 customers received water from the system and are in the boil water advisory area.

The advisory should be over Thursday or Friday.

"The boil advisory is expected to be in effect for at least 24 hours. It may, however, stretch into Friday depending on when the County receives the lab results from the sample that was taken today," said Jeffery Brown, Cumberland County Engineering and Infrastructure Director.

Customers can call the Cumberland County Public Utilities Department at 910-678-7682 for more information.
