New Development in Blacksburg brings more than assisted-living

Posted: Updated:

BLACKSBURG (WSLS) - The Crossings at Blacksburg will be a 63,000 square-foot assisted living facility. It will open in January 2015 and is expected to create 65 new jobs for the New River Valley.

The Blacksburg Town Manager, Marc Verniel says Blacksburg has about $75 million worth of development going on throughout the town.

The town has been looking for a buyer for The Crossings at Blacksburg property for the last 10 years. It's located off of Rt. 460 near Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital.

Verniel says part of the project will include a new park and recreation fields for the entire community to enjoy.

The work is also creating 60 on-site construction jobs and W.M. Jordan is using local sub-contractors for work.

President of Harmony Senior Services, Susan Eckert says, "When we really got into the studies and the trends in the year 2030 there will be a thirty two percent increase in the number of seniors in the Blacksburg market."

"A big part of Blacksburg's big economic push is making sure we have a really good solid quality of life and providing recreational facilities is a good part of that. It is a good place to live, a good place to work, and a good place to raise a family and all that goes into what we are trying to do here."
