BEAUFORT, SC -  Earlier this week a very-rare foot long Kemp's Ridley sea turtle was found caught in a local shrimper's net in the Harbor River.

The shrimper who caught him, Andrew Van Frank, performed chest compressions on the turtle after he saw it caught in the shrimp nets on Wednesday, reported the Island Packet newspaper.

He managed to get the turtle breathing again, but Van Frank decided needed more help, according to the newspaper.

After he was rescued, the turtle was taken to South Carolina Dept. of Natural Resources.

Ranger Megan Stegmeir, with SC DNR, from there transported it to Charleston to recover. The turtle, which a critically endangered species, is now at the SC Aquarium in the SC Turtle Hospital.

The turtle is said to be between a year and two years old and weighs 25 pounds.
