JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- For the Johnson City Cardinals, Thursday night was something of a dream start.
The Cardinals romped over Bluefield 13-0, the first thirteen run win since beating Burlington by the same score three years ago.
No doubt new manager Johnny Rodriguez and his boys were satisfied with their start, but there's more to it than that for the Cardinals and all teams in rookie ball.
They want to win, but they're looking for their success to come through developing guys and preparing them for the trip to the majors that's just begun.
"Year one is kind of just about getting your feet wet," said Short Stop Oscar Mercado. "You still have to produce, but I guess now things get a little more simple when you know how the game works. You know the speed of the game, and it's just about producing now and doing your best to help the team win."
