Roanoke (WSLS) - A Roanoke business owner will be in court today facing charges of transporting and selling heroin.

Listed as the owner Z Auto Repair on Shenandoah Avenue, Khalid Zafrain was pulled over by Virginia State Police on Interstate 81 in Botetourt County in the spring.

During the stop investigators found 2,000 bags of heroin in his car.

Police say Zafrain was coming back from New Jersey, one of the main areas where heroin is coming in from.

It's that pipeline from the northeast into Southwest Virginia that has law enforcement concerned.

"The problem that we're seeing is not unique to Roanoke, based on what I've learned and the experience I have," said Don Wolthuis, an Assistant U.S. Attorney who has prosecuted federal drug cases for nearly two decades. "It is a national problem that many states are struggling with."

Zafrain will have a preliminary hearing today at 11 a.m. in Botetourt County District Court.
