Independence Day falls on a Friday this year and if you’re looking for some fun ways to celebrate America turning 238 years old, check out the list below for events across our viewing area.

APEX – Olde Fashioned Fourth of July, Friday, July 4 - in Downtown Apex 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Games, inflatables, bicycle parade (no fireworks). (Rain plan: Attractions shut down until storm passes if lightning is nearby. Check for latest updates on Apex's Facebook and Twitter pages)

BENSON – July 4th Celebration – 3:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at Benson Singing Grove. Food, games, entertainment, live music, raffle, and fireworks.

BURLINGTON – July 4th in the Park (on July 3) - Fireworks are displayed for Independence Day at City Park.

CARRBORO – Carrboro Town Commons 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Friday, July 4 – Parade on Weaver Street in downtown Carrboro with events at the Town Commons.

CARY – Independence Eve Performances at Cary Arts Center: Thursday, July 3, 6:30 p.m. Applause! Cary Youth Theatre touring troupe, performs at 6:30 p.m. and the Cary Town Band performs at 7:30 p.m.

Koka Booth Ampitheatre Presented by the Town of Cary and sponsored by Forever Home – 7:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. on July 4 - music and fireworks. Also features Koka Kids Club. Kids Zone will include rides, games, magicians, face painters and more! (Rain plan: Severe weather announcements to be made from stage)

CHAPEL HILL – Fireworks at Kenan Stadium, Friday, July 4 - Live Music, watermelon eating contest, and fireworks. Gates open at 7 p.m. with family fun activities planned throughout the evening. (Rain plan: Fireworks may begin earlier than scheduled)

CLAYTON – 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks at the Municipal Park on West Stallings Street, Friday, July 4 - 4 p.m. – 10 p.m.

DURHAM- Durham Bulls Athletic Park - USA Baseball faces Chinese Taipei in games July 4 and 5. The baseball games start at 6:05 p.m. Fireworks after each of the July 4 and July 5 games. (Rain plan: Durham Bulls Rain Hotline (919) 687-6556)

FORT BRAGG – 4th of July Celebration – 3 p.m. – 10 p.m. - Friday, July 4 - Music, food, fireworks. .38 Special will perform at 5 p.m.

FUQUAY VARINA Thursday, July 3– music, kid’s games and fireworks at Fuquay Varina’s South Park – 820 N. Main Street. Gates open at 6 p.m.

GARNER - July 3, Lake Benson Park – Kid Adventure Zone, Carolina Soul Band, NC Symphony will perform. Gates open at 5 p.m. Fireworks show following the North Carolina Symphony performance. Scheduled as planned as of Wednesday afternoon, but any changes will be announced Thursday morning.

HOPE MILLS – Friday, July 4 - 10 a.m. parade, 12 p.m. - 9 p.m. celebration, 9:15 p.m. Fireworks

KNIGHTDALE – Friday, July 4 – The event will begin at 5 p.m. and conclude with the fireworks, at 9:15 p.m.. The First Annual July 4th Festival will include food trucks, the Army Reserve, music, vendors, local acts, activities & fireworks. MEBANE – Mebane 4th of July Parade, Family Music Festival and Fireworks

Mebane Let Freedom Ring Parade and Celebration 9 a.m. to Noon. Mebane Recreation & Parks Dept. presents its Annual July 4th Family Music Festival and Fireworks on Friday, July 4 at the Mebane Arts & Community Center. Music begins at 7 p.m. Weather permitting, fireworks will follow at 9:40 p.m. PITTSBORO – Freedom Celebration, Friday, July 4 – Celebration 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Parade at 2:30 p.m. Fireworks at 10 p.m. RALEIGH- Joel Lane Museum House – 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Friday, July 4 – Old Fashioned Celebration including reenactments of Colonial Life (no fireworks).

RALEIGH – The “Works! Friday, July 4, 2014 from Noon to 11 p.m. on Fayetteville Street and the Red Hat Amphitheater in downtown Raleigh. – Events all day long and Fireworks in the Evening!

Fireworks will light up the sky over The Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts starting at around 9:30 p.m. (Organizers expect the event to go on as scheduled).
