ROANOKE (WSLS) - A new arrival at Angels of Assisi Veterinary Clinic Thursday is receiving serious medical attention.

The patient is a female puppy, now affectionately known as "biscuit.” She was brought in as a stray with severe burns on her coat and a broken leg. Little is known about where she came from, how she was injured or who she belonged to.

Biscuit is considered among their most severe cases and the non-profit says it's dipping into its emergency “biscuit fund” to pay for the puppy's surgery and burn treatment.

She qualifies for the biscuit fund, a donation made possible by the public for severely abused and neglected animals.

Matthew Brown at Angels of Assisi says they are hopeful the pup will make a nice recovery and be adopted.

“Right now she is going to heal up from her burns. We are going to go ahead and do the orthopedic surgery so any donations to our biscuit fund would be greatly appreciated. Biscuit animals are always neglect or cruelty that need some kind of medical care. So any animal like her that needs surgery or any type of rehabilitative surgery like that will all benefit from the biscuit fund.”

While they don't know the back story for the puppy, they are still hoping to find the owner. If an owner is not found, after Biscuit heals she will be available for adoption.
