Local man proposes to girlfriend at Lexington Balloon Rally

Posted: Updated:

(LEXINGTON - WSLS) Balloons in Lexington were not able to launch this morning at the annual Balloon Rally due to high winds.

However, one local man didn't let that change his plans to propose to his girlfriend aboard a hot air balloon.

Ben Shehan, who grew up in Rockbridge County, was among the crowd of people who were told they would be unable to fly this morning.

Immediately, Ben and his family worked to find another way to make the proposal happen.

Balloon operators were able to get Shehan and his girlfriend, Brooklyn Jarvis, into a balloon for a tethered ride above the Parade Grounds.

When Shehan popped the question, Jarvis began to cry and said yes.

Afterwards the happy couple was nothing but smiles.

Jarvis said, "That was pretty good improvisation coming up with a different way to do it. It was beautiful and it was a perfect morning so I really couldn't imagine a better day."
