Last month, Governor Terry McAuliffe appointed several local leaders to the State Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board, including Roanoke Fire-EMS Chief David Hoback and Botetourt County Fire and EMS Division Chief Jason Ferguson.
Hoback said the board faces some unique challenges, including adjusting to changing times and a new administration.
"We've been going through some very difficult financial times both at the state and local levels and we have to be mindful of that and how get things accomplished," Hoback said. "That's one thing that drives some of the policies we make. What used to work 10 years ago may not work today."
The board will have its first meeting Friday, August 8.
