RALEIGH, N.C. -

Merz North America, a specialty healthcare company, will establish its headquarters in Raleigh.

Gov. Pat McCrory made the announcement Wednesday afternoon at the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.

The global pharmaceutical - part of the Merz Pharma Group, headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany with affiliates in 18 countries - will move operations from its current headquarters in Greensboro and from elsewhere in the United States.

"For Merz, this move accelerates us toward our vision of becoming the world's most admired, trusted and innovative aesthetics and neurotoxin company," said Bill Humphries, president and CEO of Merz North America.

Merz has leased 60,000 square feet of space at 6501 Six Forks Road. The new headquarters will house 250 employees and net 50 new jobs for the state of North Carolina, officials said. The relocation is expected to take place in phases over the coming year.

"Today's announcement is another example of how companies recognize everything North Carolina has to offer - from the exceptional work force to the high quality of life," said Gov. McCrory. "Our community colleges and universities are second to none and will provide a dedicated, hard-working, and talented work force."

McCrory says no state incentives were given to the company since they had already established headquarters in North Carolina.

Merz employees about 2,500 employees globally.
