$61 Starbucks Frappuccino sets new record

Posted: Updated:
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. -

A Florida woman recently broke the record for the most expensive drink ever ordered at a Starbucks coffee shop, according to Consumerist.

The woman planned ahead to make sure that management and staff knew ahead of time she would be placing the order, and she also came just before closing time in order to not inconvenience other patrons.

The initial price for her drink was more than $60.

After scanning her rewards card, the price dropped to $57.75, which still beat the previous record of $54.75.

The customer used a rewards coupon and ended up getting the drink for free.

The drink included 60 shots of espresso, caramel syrup, white mocha and hazelnut drizzle, and soy milk.

Starbucks' corporate policy doesn't allow for such drinks to be made.

"Per our existing policy, beverages larger than Trenta size (31 oz.) cannot be made or served. This includes personal cups that exceed 31 oz. For blended beverages and espresso drinks, those cannot be made or served in sizes larger than a Venti (24 oz cold cup/20 oz hot cup)," Starbucks said in a statement to Consumerist.

Now that the old record has been broken, it may only be a matter of time before someone else sets a new one.
