LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Deputies in Lincoln County are offering a $1,000 reward for information after someone threw a bottle out of a vehicle and hit a two-year-old in the face.

The incident happened on Coral Drive around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mike Hudson, the father of two-year-old Sam Hudson, says the family was out for a walk when a late model white-colored Chevy Malibu came around the curve and slowed down.

"He was holding my hand. There was a car that came around the curve, and he slowed down. We thought he was slowing down to be courteous," Hudson told WBTV.

But, he said, the driver was anything but courteous. "He chucks a water bottle out of the car. Hits our two-year-old in the face."

The car then kept driving towards Springs East Road.

The water bottle, which officials say was half-full but still heavy, struck little Sam hard in the face and caused several bruises and a cut at the top of his nose.

"He took all of it to the face. I just don't see how somebody could do that to a kid," Hudson said.

Wednesday Sam was playing with his family in the front yard of their home, but his father says he can't get what happened out of his mind.

"I was trying to get a tag number, but he was going too fast to get a tag number," he said.

Instead, Mike and his wife took the bottle to the Sheriff's Office to use as evidence.

"It makes me sick to my stomach," Lincoln County Sheriff Carpenter said.

The bottle, which has the suspect's fingerprints and DNA on it, is going to help with the case.

"It's gonna help us to be able to analyze that evidence and see if we can come up with anything off of it," Carpenter said.

The driver of the Malibu is described as a white male believed to be in his early 20s with dark hair. He was wearing a light gray or white t-shirt. He was the only person in the car.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Lincoln County Crimestoppers at 704-736-8909. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest, and callers can remain anonymous.
