New details in Roanoke County credit card conspiracy

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS) - New details have surfaced about a massive conspiracy to forge credit cards in Roanoke County.

In June, Roanoke County Police recovered more than 370 illegal credit cards inside one of the units at Honeywood Apartments.

William Gomez, 43, was expected in court Thursday morning for six felony charges of possessing a credit card forgery device, but never showed up.

Another suspect, Erlen Bosch, was in court.

Roanoke County Police believe Bosch and Gomez are a part of large group out of Miami, Fla. The scheme was detailed in court, where people's real credit card numbers are being used, but the scammers are using their own names.

Police found embossed ribbon from the credit card machine, that repeatedly had 23 people’s names.

"We recovered numerous credit cards and we had a lot of reports in the Roanoke Valley about credit card cases and fraud cases of credit card numbers. They aren't really sure how their information got compromised,” Roanoke County Detective E.J. Chidester said.

The judge ultimately decided there wasn’t enough probable cause for Bosch’s case to move forward to the grand jury.

However, Detective Chidester said Secret Service is working on the case and it will likely move it up to the federal level.
