RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. -

One locomotive and 16 cars derailed Monday night in Rutherford County.

CSX Transportation reports the incident happened about 7:30 p.m. on tracks about a mile from Brice which is close to the North Carolina border with South Carolina. It happened on Hines Loop Road.

All the derailed cars were carrying coal. There were no injuries involved in the crash according to CSX.

The train had three locomotives and 110 cars.

A CSX response team is at the scene and we're told it will take until the end of Tuesday to clear the 16 derailed cars and one locomotive. The spilled coal is being stockpiled to be removed from the scene.  CSX says it will not know a cause until crews clear off the tracks.

CSX Transportation claims there will be minimal environmental impact from the derailment.

No detour is in place for drivers.
